Start with the numbers: only 1% of the world’s water is readily available as freshwater – that’s the stuff we drink, bathe and irrigate farm lands with. About a billion of us have no easy access to freshwater at all and many others will go for weeks throughout the year with water scarcity. The impact of this is larger than we might think:

• Diseases from inadequate sanitation kill millions (usually children) every year.
• Hours every week to travel to a local freshwater lake or river, jusst Access to water is the cornerstone to a community’s wellbeing.

It’s not only for life, hygiene and health, but can alleviate the extra time and work which can be an obstacle to a child’s educational commitment and to everyone’s long term economic productivity. Water is everything. get the essential ingredient that makes everyday life actually possible

We work with local organisations experienced in building sustainable water-systems for communities that need it. We also work with charities already engaged in projects who need additional donations to reach a milestone to complete funding for projects.

H2Zero is a new venture, and we have yet to complete our current water projects. Please check here again soon for updates.

The amount of water on the planet now is the same as there was millions of years ago. The water we use and expel is purified by nature and enters back into the water cycle as fresh drinkable water in the form of rain, fog and so on. But here’s the problem: humans in some parts of the world use freshwater at a rate faster than it is being replenished. Coupled with droughts and big changes to the climate in recent decades, there are some parts of the world with more water than is needed, and others lacking this most essential vital resource. With many of the world’s wetlands disappearing, rivers and lakes drying up, and altering weather patterns, the numbers of people living with water scarcity are growing dramatically.

I was raised in rural West Africa, in a simple house with no running water. From the age of 4, I was up in the dawn hours with my grandmother to fetch water from the local river. Life did not begin without this daily ritual, or else there was no drinking, cooking or washing. I can’t imagine a day without the kindness of neighbours who would make an extra trip for us when my grandmother was too sick to go.

Kindness is the world’s oldest social welfare. It doesn’t need political programs or higher taxes. I have seen this first hand growing up in (what privileged societies would call) a poor community. Everybody here lives so close to the edge of their mortality that life – not their life, but life itself – is so delicately appreciated Despite all odds, people survived bec It comes from an intuition that many of us do have more than we need and that given a little away not make us poorer, but enrichen us in ways material things

Take it from someone who’s lived through this: people don’t want to rely on kindness, they just need a helping hand to get up and get started. Making water accessible to communities provides the backbone for their prosperity.
